The 380-million-year history of plants in WA
5 September, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Did you know that the oldest known fossil Banksia species, Banksia archaeocarpa is thought to be 40 million years old!
We are lucky to have Professor Ken McNamara, an expert in palaeontology, to share the fascinating world of Western Australian fossil plants. In his talk, Professor McNamara will present an overview of the the 380-million-year fossil plant record of Western Australia and discuss its relevance to the origin of the modern flora. He will bring some plant fossils along to illustrate his talk.
Professor McNamara was a Senior Curator at the Western Australian Museum for nearly 30 years. He was responsible for the fossils of invertebrate animals and for the large, relatively little studied fossil plant collection. He is now an Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia.
Members and non-members welcome, $3 entry with supper included.
