Adam Cross: Carnivorous heritage of the Armadale region
11 April, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$3.00Carnivorous heritage of the Armadale region
Dr Adam Cross – Research Fellow, ARC Centre for Mine Site Restoration, Curtin University
Drosera glanduligera, Pimpernel Sundew
The greater Armadale region is unique in a global context for its carnivorous flora, even within the global biodiversity hotspot of southwest Western Australia in which it is located. More species of carnivorous plant are native to this small region than can be found in any region of similar size in the world. However, the region also represents one of the most degraded and fragmented areas in the State, and this floral heritage is coming under increasing threat. Indeed, Armadale is now home to some of the most at-risk plant species in our State, and these require urgent management if we are to preserve them for future generations. Dr Cross’ talk will overview our State’s carnivorous flora in the context of the Armadale region, in particular, with a focus on conservation and management needs into the future.
The Wildflower Society uses its independent technical knowledge of WA’s wildflowers to help you better know, grow, enjoy and conserve the wildflowers of Western Australia.
