John Huisman on Algae of the Perth Region

Dr John Huisman will present on Algae of the Perth Region. John has studied Algae, especially Red and invasive Algae, around the oceans of the world and especially Western Australia for over 30 years. Australia has an extremely rich flora of marine plants with over 12,000 species of which approximately 7,500 are confined to Australia. Apart from their inherent value, Algae are important for chemicals, food, fertilizer, medicines and the basic habitat and food components of most marine ecosystems.
Meetings of the Perth Branch of the Society are held on the second Tuesday of each month in the Subiaco Community Centre across the road from Crossways Shopping centre in Bagot Road. Doors open at 7.45pm and the meeting begins at 8pm. Supper is served after the talk and everyone is eligible for the night’s door prize. You do not need to be a member of the Society to attend, entry requiring a $2 door donation.
