Perth Branch Annual General Meeting and presentation on orchid floral mimicry
13 April, 2021 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
$3April’s meeting of the Perth Branch will also be our Annual General Meeting. We will be electing the new committee and office bearers for the upcoming year. As always, we welcome anyone willing to contribute, so please nominate if you have the inkling.
Following on from our AGM – which will be a streamlined affair – we will have a presentation from our invited guest, Curtin University researcher Dr Daniela Scaccabarozzi.
Floral mimicry has been long suspected to occur in our donkey orchids, whose flowers resemble several native pea plants that flower at the same time and place. The details of this mimicry system, however, are only now being revealed. Daniela has found that not only do the flower colours and patterns matter, but also the behaviour of the pollinating insect is key to the success of this deception. This fascinating topic is sure to be of interest to anyone interested in our native orchids and wildflowers.
Doors at the Subiaco Community Centre open at 7.45 pm with the meeting beginning at 8 pm. The $3 door donation gets you entry into the night’s door prize.
The Wildflower Society uses its independent technical knowledge of WA’s wildflowers to help you better know, grow, enjoy and conserve the wildflowers of Western Australia.
