Ravensthorpe Wildflower Show
13 September, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 24 September, 2016 @ 4:00 pm
$5.00Come and share the Spring beauty of the Ravensthorpe Range, the magnificent Hopetoun Coast and the Fitzgerald River and Frank Hann National Parks.
Over the last 30 years the Ravensthorpe Wildflower Show has developed into one of the best shows in Western Australia. Possibly the largest number in the world of different species of named wildflowers are displayed, collected from one of the world’s richest biodiversity areas.
An escorted Wildflower Walk and 4WD tag along tours will be run throughout the duration of the show. Information on a further 12 self-drive wildflower tours will also be available at the show.
The Wildflower Show Shop offers many wildflower related books, cards and products, and features the work of local artists and crafts people, and DVDs with botanical information and photographs of over 200 different wildflowers for sale.
You will also be able to visit the Ravensthorpe Herbarium, which holds hundreds of botanical specimens collected from within the Ravensthorpe Shire. Experts on the local flowers are on hand each day for identification queries.
Devonshire Teas and warming soup are available each day, provided by local fund raising organisations. The comfortable surroundings of the 106 year old Ravensthorpe Community Centre will make a refreshing ‘tea break’ for the weary traveller.
Proceeds from the Wildflower Show are donated to partnership organisations which assist in the running of the show, the Senior Citizens and the Ravensthorpe Historical Society.
WHEN: 13-24 September 2016
WHERE: Ravensthorpe, Western Australia
WHAT: The 34th Annual Wildflower Show and Spring Festival is just weeks away and promises to be a month of vibrant floral beauty, events and activities in the towns of Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun and surrounding bush. In the 10 day window of the Wildflower Show we are expecting to be able to showcase over 700 floral species that will delight amateur and professional botanists, nature lovers and tourists alike. The collection and display of bush articles, including an echidna and chuditch, our artisan and collectibles stall and the stunning lady crafted by Sue Leighton and adorned to a theme in wildflowers are also not to be missed.
The Spring Festival programme is still in its infancy but we can reveal that it will include a street parade WA Police Pipe Band followed by a Ceilidh, a Scottish themed dance party. The children and adults will be offered Scottish dancing lessons. As well as markets, pop-up shops and the annual Gala Dinner, this will be held in Hopetoun in the new community building. Again we are lucky to have our patron Sabrina Hahn present and Alec Cole, CEO of the WA Museum as our guest speaker. Other exciting elements of the Festival include a workshop and display of art by Botanical Artist Penny Leach, local community group hosted Devonshire Teas and Soup lunches, 4WD Tag-a-long and Bus tours, Guided Wildflower bush walks, art and photographic exhibitions. Rags to Riches project to upcycle a bundle of rags using an artistic licence.
We expect to attract a minimum of 2000 people to the event over the ten day wildflower show component, making this the busiest time of the year for Ravensthorpe and the surrounding districts.
The quantity of rain experienced so far this year promises to make this season one of diversity, colour and scale – already the bush is starting to bloom!
