Native plants suitable for Western Australian gardens: e-book series

Members of the Grow sub-committee have been working in native nurseries for many years which has allowed them to gain a broad knowledge of the plants found in southwest Western Australia that are available in retail nurseries and which are reliable when grown in optimal conditions.

These e-books have been created in response to what has been observed over the years. Also, many people want to grow native plants but often don’t know where to start as the array of plants in a nursery seems too overwhelming especially when they are known by their Latin botanical names.  Other people are put off growing native plants when the plants they select by looks alone are simply not growing well and never thrive – this is where these books can be so useful.

This series of e-books will make it easier to select plants within different plant groups either by genus such as ‘Grevillea’ or ‘Beaufortia’ or for situations such as ‘Coastal Plants’. This will make it easier to select plants that will be suitable for your garden.  Outlined is the plant’s size and growing conditions so that you will know if the plant you want to grow has a reasonable chance of succeeding in your soil.

The intention is to only showcase the plants that are known to be found in retail nurseries as, of course, there are many plants that you will see on bush walks that you would love in your garden, but which have eluded propagation on a commercial basis.  This is either through difficulties in getting the seed to germinate successfully or through the many difficulties in obtaining and succeeding with cutting material as most plants found in the wild cannot be obtained without a licence.   There are thousands of beautiful plants in cultivation and this e-book series contains just a fraction of what is available.
