Flora Roads

Many of our road verges, particularly in the agricultural areas harbour remnant native vegetation that have valuable conservation and tourism value.

However many are under threat due to clearing for road works, benign neglect, damage from adjacent agricultural activities and invasion by weeds.

Flora Roads are tourist attractions and are spectacular in spring. Information at relevant tourist points and signs can guide visitors to these areas, giving them a taste of Western Australia’s unique wildflowers.

These roads can enhance tourist routes in a Shire or region and the Wildflower Society of Western Australia supports their continuation and enhancement.

The Wildflower Society is developing a program to recognise roads with high flora value and integrate them into local and regional tourist information.
