Wildflower Excellence Award

The Wildflower Excellence Award (WFA) was developed to encourage Local Governments (LGAs) to take wildflower protection into all of their activities, not just draw benefit from coincidental conservation opportunities, principally from reserved lands they do not manage.

It is an opportunity for LGAs to build on and promote their conservation activities and to attain public recognition and status for their efforts.

The winner of the 2024 Award was the Shire of Merredin who were outstanding in their protection of native flora.

Each year WSWA invites local governments to apply to be judged against the Scheme’s criteria and to receive an award.

The award includes a certificate acknowledging and highlighting the excellence of the LG in retaining and maintaining natural areas, reserves and roadsides with high conservation value, a plaque acknowledging and highlighting the excellence of the LG as the leading LG in that year. Also a consignment of locally native plant tubestock suitable to be planted in LG’s main town centre as an entry statement or in the administration centre garden.
