Growing knowledge

If you don’t know where to start with native plants, then the e-books in Resources are a good place to get ideas.  These books are on an individual genus such as Eremophila, Eucalyptus, Grevillea etc. to locations such as coastal sites or a particular look such as Grey Leaved Plants.  The books give the growing conditions that each plant will find success in, as well as images of what they look like.  If you don’t know botanical names for plants and most Western Australian plants are primarily known for their botanical name, then these books make it easy for you to get started.

Once you have an idea of what you are looking for it’s time to source the plants from our own Wildflower Society Nursery. There is also a comprehensive list of nurseries located all of WA that you can visit or phone to see whether they have the plant you are looking for.

If you want to see what some native gardens look like, then there are videos of members gardens to get ideas.

If you are bitten by the bug of growing native plants and want to know more, try the Australian Native Plant Society (Australia), which will let you join study groups to find out more on a particular genus of plants.

Finally, there are links to books that outline all you need to know about growing wildflowers and one on growing locally in the Perth area.
