EVENT DETAILS
With the assistance of the Shire of York and an enthusiastic group of Curtin University students, pathways providing more accessibility to the Bushland Garden beds were lined with beautiful lichen-covered rocks, collected and delivered by members Liz and Brian Manning from their property.
The Branch has been delighted to host CU groups twice a year for several years now, via the University’s volunteer program. The young people are always full of curiosity and energy, and we enjoy their company when they visit. The day usually begins with a welcoming morning tea and get to know you session at the Branch’s base, the Gogolyar Bilya Environmental Discovery Centre by the river. We then move to the Garden and get the students busy with various tasks, such as planting, weeding, oiling timber structures, pruning and spreading mulch. We provide a hearty lunch back at the Centre, before returning to the Garden for some lighter activity until it’s time for them to leave mid-afternoon. They receive a gift of our logo bag with brochures promoting the Garden, Seed Orchard and local Reserves.
